During my time covering sports for MassLive, my favorite stories used sports as a lens to explore something bigger: a look at how one Springfield high school girls basketball team kept its players in school and took care of them off the court, or what it’s like for a veteran minor-league hockey goalie, his wife and his two young daughters to move to a new city almost every year for his career. Outside of sports, I love writing about travel, music and culture, and you can find some of that work here. I also write fiction and essays, which you can find here.
When I’m not writing, I’m usually reading, watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, biking or playing hockey. I grew up in western Pennsylvania, but I’ve lived in Massachusetts since coming here for college in 2009, bouncing from Boston to the Northampton area and back to Boston again. I studied abroad twice in college, first exploring Ireland, then immersing myself in Spanish language and South American culture in Peru. I will eat breakfast food for any meal, and I’m on an informal quest to find the best home fries in Massachusetts. (Right now, Silver Spoon in Easthampton and @Union in Allston are the frontrunners.)
For a mix of stray music thoughts and sighing about the Pirates, you can find my Twitter account here. Send Boston diner recommendations (or just say hey) to anniem9109 at gmail dot com.
